Philadelphia police have made an arrest in the stabbing death of a retired Villanova University professor found dead in her apartment earlier this month.
According to a police department spokeswoman, the city’s homicide unit arrested 42 year-old Jose Diaz from West Hansberry Street for the murder of 69 year-old Carol Ambruster.
Ambruster was found in her residence on Monday, December 9, 2013, with multiple stab wounds to her chest and neck area. She was pronounced on the scene.
The former assistant professor of astronomy and astrophysics was found by her roommate in the kitchen of their apartment in the Germantown section of the city, reports the Associated Press.
Diaz is charged with murder and related offenses.
Police say Diaz lives less than a mile from the apartment building where Ambruster was killed.
