Aboard the S.S. United States

As much as we’d like to, we can’t take you onto the S.S. United States – that hulking, corroding piece of American naval ingenuity moored in the Delaware River. But to give you a sense of the boat’s current condition, Steven Ujifusa snapped the photos below and shared them with PlanPhilly a while back. At two Behind PlanPhilly events in the coming weeks, Steve is celebrating the release of his new book, A Man and His Ship, which is all about the “Big U.” First up we’re co-hosting a book release party and conversation with Steve on Thursday, July 19 at the Independence Seaport Museum. Then on August 1 Steve will join PennPraxis Executive Director Harris Steinberg for a boat tour on the Delaware which will take us right up to the S.S. United States.
