Philly Watchdog app deputizes citizens to fight fraud and waste

The city of Philadelphia is using a high tech way to capture and report fraud and corruption.

“When it comes to reporting fraud and waste in Philadelphia we now have an app for that,” said Philadelphia City Controller Alan Butkovitz.   His office has come up with a first in the country application for the iPhone to give citizens an easy way report waste and corruption in city government.

“One of the key features of the Philly Watchdog app is the ability for users to record fraudulent activities on the app and report directly to our fraud unit,” he said.

Brian Dries of the Controller’s office gives examples of abuse people could capture with the app.
