DAG mayoral forum, tonight

On Monday, April 9, Inquirer Editorial Page Editor Chris Satullo will moderate a Philadelphia mayoral forum that explores the concepts of design for community and quality of life in our city.

The candidates for mayor will discuss issues affecting the look and feel of the city and its neighborhoods at this free public forum.

Audience members will be invited to pose questions. Following the candidates’ appearance, there will be a panel discussion among the sponsoring organizations with audience participation.

“The goal is to hear what the candidates have to say about the status of planning, design and zoning in Philadelphia, and how those matters affect the effort to build a city that is both beautiful and functional,” said Satullo. “I think it’s fair to say that the sponsoring groups all feel that there’s a lot of room for improvement in city government’s level of attention to sound principles of planning, zoning and design.”

Planphilly reporters will cover the forum and post a story immediately following the event. A full video of the forum will also be posted on www.planphilly.com. 

The forum will start promptly at 5:30 p.m., Monday, April 9 at the Free Library of Philadelphia, Central Branch, 1901 Vine St., Montgomery Auditorium. The forum will conclude at 7:30.

Sponsoring organizations are the Design Advocacy Group (DAG), AIA Philadelphia, the Local Host Committee of the 2007 American Planning Association Conference, the Community Design Collaborative, the Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Inquirer/University of Pennsylvania Great Expectations: Citizens Voices on Philadelphia’s Future.
Seating for the forum is first-come, first-served. No advance registration is required.
