President Obama’s Supreme Court Nomination: a look at Merrick Garland and reaction across Capitol Hill

Yesterday, President Obama announced his nominee for the Supreme Court, Judge Merrick Garland. The chief judge of the DC Circuit Court of Appeals, Garland is the oldest nominee in over 40 years and faces an extremely difficult, if not impossible, path to the nomination. Almost immediately after Obama’s announcement, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell declared that no hearings will be convened on the matter and that the next president will decide on the next justice of our nation’s highest court.
