President Obama’s Supreme Court Nomination: a look at Merrick Garland and reaction across Capitol Hill

Listen 00:48:44

Guests: Craig Green, Carol Nackenoff

Yesterday, President Obama announced his nominee for the Supreme Court, Judge Merrick Garland. The chief judge of the DC Circuit Court of Appeals, Garland is the oldest nominee in over 40 years and faces an extremely difficult, if not impossible, path to the nomination. Almost immediately after Obama’s announcement, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell declared that no hearings will be convened on the matter and that the next president will decide on the next justice of our nation’s highest court. Joining us to discuss Obama’s selection, its implications, and any potential impact on the 2016 campaign are CAROL NACKENOFF, political science professor at Swarthmore College and CRAIG GREEN, professor at Temple University’s Beasley School of Law.
