GUEST: DAVID ROTHENBERG
[REBROADCAST] Many of us are enjoying these summer nights enhanced by a chorus of cicadas, katydids and crickets. Our guest, philosopher and musician, DAVID ROTHENBERG, believes that insects’ humming, clicking, thrumming have influenced human ideas about rhythm, synchronization and dance. He’s a professor of philosopher and music at the New Jersey Institute of Technology and has played his saxophone with an orchestra of cicadas. Rothenberg’s latest inter-species musical collaboration is with insects. Marty spoke to Rothenberg about his new work, “Bug Music: How Insects Gave Us Rhythm and Noise” earlier this month.
