Making a clean sweep of old prescriptions

    Prescription drugs may be one of the wonders of modern medicine, but they’re also contributing to a growing problem when disposed of improperly.

    Saturday, the Drug Enforcement Administration is sponsoring the “National Take-Back Initiative,” asking people to clean out their medicine cabinets and get rid of prescriptions they no longer need.

    The Pennsylvania Medical Society is joining in the effort.

    Dr. Scott Shapiro, the society’s president and a practicing physician in Montgomery County, joined NewsWorks Tonight’s John Weber to discuss proper medication disposal.
