When our heroes fail us
Listen 00:48:43Guests: Jane Shure, Frida Ghitis, Sam Fulwood
All of us have heroes, whether we’d like to admit it or not. Family members, politicians, celebrities, athletes or artists can provide us with an ideal to aspire toward. But these heroes are humans too. They have flaws and tendencies that can cause us to lose our respect for them. Bill Cosby, Lance Armstrong, and even the fictitious Atticus Finch have all disappointed, and even disgusted, their once-adoring admirers. And in our homes, parents and family members that we admire are also capable of making bad decisions or succumbing to vice. Today, we explore what happens when our heroes fail us and how to manage the disappointment that comes along with it. We’re joined by psychotherapist JANE SHURE, columnist for the World Politics Review FRIDA GHITIS, and by SAM FULWOOD, Senior Fellow at the Center for American Progress.
