What is self-awareness?

Listen 48:59

Guests: Tasha Eurich, David Dunning

We all know someone–a co-worker, friend, or family member–who is blissfully un-self-aware – someone who overestimates themselves and is oblivious to their actions and how they affect other people. But what if you are that person? One study found that 95% of people think they’re self-aware, when in fact only 10-15% were truly introspective. This hour, we talk with two psychologists about ways to be more self-aware and the dangers of self-delusion. Our guests are TASHA EURICH, an organizational psychologist and the author of Insight, and DAVID DUNNING, a psychologist at the University of Michigan.
