Veepstakes

Listen 00:48:46

Guests: Katie Glueck, Kyle Kondik and Joel Goldstein

The nominating conventions are months away, but the ‘Veepstakes’ have already begun. Some candidates for president choose a Vice President to help unite their political party, or to improve their image or poll numbers in a certain state. Politico Politics reporter KATIE GLUECK will discuss the challenge presumptive Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump faces as Evangelical leaders threaten to sit out the election if they don’t like Trump’s V-P. And on the Democratic side, there have been calls for Hillary Clinton to select a candidate who appeals to the more liberal faction of the party. We’ll get the latest forecasting from KYLE KONDIK, the Managing Editor of Sabato’s Crystal Ball at the University of Virginia Center for Politics. And to put all this in historical perspective, we’ll turn to JOEL GOLDSTEIN, the author the new book The White House Vice Presidency: The Path to Significance, Mondale to Biden.
