The election has passed, and many macroeconomic signs point to a recovering economy. But that still leaves so many Americans — 46.2 million people — in poverty, including about 30 percent of Philadelphians by U.S. Census Bureau statistics. And almost 50 million people, including more than 16 million children, are living in a household struggling against hunger. In this hour of Radio Times, we check in on hunger and poverty in our region and the nation, and what’s being done to address it, with two leaders in the field. DR. MARIANA CHILTON is an associate – professor at Drexel University School of Public Health, co-principal investigator of Children’s HealthWatch and the Director of the Center for Hunger-Free Communities at Drexel University School of Public Health. And STEVEANNA WYNN is executive director of SHARE, the Self Help and Resource Exchange that provides food to 550 food pantries and 7,000 co-op households. And we’ll check in with GREG KAUFMANN, who writes a weekly blog for The Nation magazine’s website called “This Week in Poverty,” tracking poverty and its implications on public policy and private lives around the country.
