The Mommy Wars and Amy Chua’s new parenting memoir

Listen

Hour 2

The Mommy Wars have been reignited.  This time it’s in response to Amy Chua’s controversial memoir Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother about what she calls parenting “the Chinese Way.”  Some say the book is an indictment against lax parenting and call Chua’s rules of no play-dates, no sleepovers, no school plays, no grades less than an A, and countless hours of piano and violin practice bordering on abuse.  Others point to the success, confidence and happiness of Chua’s two daughters and say in the end, that’s all that matters.  Our guests are ANN HULBERT who wrote a piece on the Chua’s book for Slate.com and Asian American writer, educator and activist FRANCES KAI-HWA WANG.
