The Israel/Gaza conflict

Listen

As the air war over Israel and Gaza continues and Israeli’s amass ground troops and tanks along the shared border, Egyptian-led efforts to negotiate a cease-fire are underway.  Israel has demanded that Hamas stop the ongoing rocket fire into Israel which has been intensifying in recent months.  Hamas wants an end to the Israeli-enforced blockade on Gaza.  And there is a lot at stake for the region, particularly for Egypt’s new government whose loyalties are being tested.  In this hour of Radio Times we’ll look at what this renewed violence means for Israel and Gaza, their neighbors as well as U.S. foreign policy.  We’ll start out getting an update from Israel and Gaza from Washington Post reporter ERNESTO LONDONO. Then we’ll talk about the complicated issues with Brookings scholar KHALED ELGINDY and former U.S. Ambassador to Egypt and Israel DANIEL KURTZER
