The High Kings

When a band is named the best folk group in an entire country not once, but three times, there is obviously something especially prodigious about them.  The High Kings is arguably one of the greatest folk bands to ever emerge from Ireland, selling out shows and going platinum multiple times in the Emerald Isle.  Now the dynamic outfit is expanding into the United States, making an undeniable mark with performances on network television, as well as playing national tours.  On Canvas caught up with them recently at World Café Live.  Their new album Memory Lane is already making waves in America, debuting at number five on Billboard’s Irish album chart.  The High Kings’ blending of traditional folk with modernized rock n’ roll is truly something that must be heard, no matter what country you’re in.
