Oscuro Quintet
When five forward thinking classical musicians unite, using unique combinations of instruments to take their genre to the next level, it may be a good idea to listen. On Canvas caught their performance at the Painted Bride Art Center in Philadelphia. The Oscuro Quintet is a modern “supergroup” of sorts, ushering in the evolution of tango while respecting its traditional roots. The five international members incorporate guitar, grand piano, violin, bandoneon, double bass, accordion and more in their creative brand of contemporary tango. The talented collective has rapidly become one of the most original and acclaimed tango ensembles on the East Coast. A musical collage of classically trained, adventurous souls pushing tango to where it’s never been before: that is the Oscuro Quintet.
