Guest: Fred Hersch

It’s the inaugural day of the Outbeat Festival in Philadelphia, which is being billed as “America’s First Queer Jazz Festival.” This hour, Marty is joined by one of the festival’s featured performers, veteran jazz pianist and composer, FRED HERSCH.  Hersch has been writing and performing music for more than three decades and has been nominated for numerous Grammy’s, including Best Instrumental Composition and Best Jazz Instrumental Performance. Outside of his musical endeavors, Hersch is a fund-raiser and spokesman for AIDS-relief efforts, having been diagnosed with the disease himself.
