Exploring our national parks

Listen

Hour 1

Guests: John Garder, Jonathan Dorn, Christopher Solomon

Summer is quickly approaching – have you made your vacation plans yet?  How about a trip to one of the 401 national parks or monuments in this country?  Yosemite, Shenandoah, Gettysburg, Glacier, Arches, the Statue of Liberty.  Today, we check in on the parks to see how they are faring after last year’s sequestration and government shut down.  We’ll also get  recommendations on great national park trips and learn about the least-visited place in the National Parks System, Aniakchak Monument in Alaska.  Marty’s guests are JOHN GARDER, Director of Budget and Appropriations at the National Parks Conservation Association, JONATHAN DORN, editorial director of Backpacker Magazine, Climbing Magazine and National Park Trips, and freelance writer CHRISTOPHER SOLOMON.
