Guests: Paul Bogard

[REBROADCAST] When was the last time you gazed up at a star-filled night sky with darkness all around? Writer Paul Bogard grew up spending summers in northern Minnesota where you could see the Milky Way glow at night but these days true darkness is hard to find. In his book The End of Night: Searching for Natural Darkness in the Age of Artificial Light, Bogard explores the ways in which electric lights have changed our world, the effect they’ve had on our health, culture and ecology. He joinjed Marty earlier this summer and told her about visiting some of the darkest places in the United States and some of the lightest – the neon strip of Las Vegas.
