Democracy in Black: How Race Still Enslaves the American Soul

Guest: Eddie Claude Jr.

Princeton University professor EDDIE GLAUDE JR. argues in his book Democracy in Black: How Race Still Enslaves the American Soul that white supremacy and racism continue to cripple the African American communities. And while many hoped that Barack Obama’s presidency would usher in a post-racial America, Glaude says the President has done little to address racial inequality.   Now, Glaude says, it’s time for a “civic power outage” in the streets and at the ballot box.  Glaude is chair of the Center for African-American studies at Princeton University and he sits down with Marty this hour to talk about his new book and what democracy looks like to African-Americans.
