“Curtis on Tour” Preview Recital

The Curtis Institute of Music believes that students “learn by doing”, one example of this is with Curtis on Tour, in which students receives real life experience as they perform with Curtis faculty in different venues throughout North America, Europe, Asia and South America. This week On Stage At Curtis features Curtis on Tour preview recital. The students will perform with Elizabeth Hainen, the Maryjane Mayhew Barton Chair in Harp Studies at Curtis and principal harpist for the Philadelphia Orchestra and Scott St. John (Violin ’90) former violinist of the St. Lawrence String Quartet.

Debussy: Sonata for Flute, Viola, and Harp

Debussy’s Sonata for Flute, Viola, and Harp was written in 1915. There are very few pieces with the combination for flute, viola and harp. These three instruments deliver great colors to any performance. The movements are marked: Pastorale: Lento, dolce rubato; Interlude: Tempo di minuetto and Finale: Allegro moderato ma risoluto.

Richard Danielpour: Beloved Night

Beloved Night composed by award winning composer Richard Danielpour and Curtis faculty member in the composition department takes the listeners on a very emotional journey.

Alyssa Weinberg: flutter/drive/wander

While Alyssa Weinberg was a student at Curtis in 2015, she composed flutter/drive/wander for violin and cello. Alyssa Weinberg received her Artist Diploma from the Curtis Institute of Music and began her studies as a doctoral fellow at Princeton University in the fall of 2016.

Ravel: Shéhérazade, arr. Hsu

Andrew Hsu arranged Shéhérazade a song cycle by Maurice Ravel and text by Tristan Klingsor. The songs are Asie; La flûte enchantée and L’indifférent.
