George Washington, Benedict Arnold and the Fate of the American Revolution

Listen 00:48:45

Guest: Nathaniel Philbrick

George Washington was unprepared to lead the Continental Army and had to learn on the job. Those are two of the perhaps surprising assessments made by NATHANIEL PHILBRICK in his latest book Valiant Ambition: George Washington, Benedict Arnold, and the Fate of the American Revolution. In the book, Philbrick, a National Book Award winner, writes of the complicated relationship between the two men, and the role a dysfunctional Congress played in their separation. In this hour of Radio Times, Marty speaks with Philbrick about the book and America’s history.
