Guest: Brendan Jones

The icy waters of the Bering Sea are vastly different than the streets of Philadelphia. Yet that is exactly the dramatic change of scenery that a young woman, the main character of the new book The Alaskan Laundry, hopes will help her cope with her mother’s death. Host Marty Moss-Coane talks with author BRENDAN JONES about his debut novel about life in Alaska and the important role that commercial fishing has played in his life and in the main character’s life. For the book, Jones drew on his own experiences living on a tugboat in Alaska and working in commercial fishing. His work has appeared in the New York Times, Ploughshares, Popular Woodworking, and the Huffington Post, as well as on NPR.
