Ending homelessness in Philadelphia and Berks Counties

Everyone should have access to safe shelter, but as you walk down the streets in Philadelphia and Reading, Pa., you know not everyone has his or her own bed to claim as their own at night. We’ll get an update of Philadelphia’s and Reading’s street homeless population and what organizations are doing to decrease the numbers. Marty’s guests are CHRIS SIMIRIGLIA, Executive Director of Pathways to Housing PA, and MARCELLA MAGUIRE, Director of Philadelphia’s Department of Behavior Health and Intellectual Disability Services. And SHARON PARKER, Executive Director of the Berks Coalition to End Homelessness, explains how she helps manage Reading’s homelessness and at-risk population – about 40 percent of the city of 88,000 live below the poverty line.
