Philadelphia’s changing public signage

Listen

Guests:  Blondell Reynolds Brown, Jared Brey, Mary Tracy

There are nearly 2,000 billboards in Philadelphia advertising everything from Tastykakes to vodka. Just drive along the I-95 corridor and along the Schuylkill Expressway and you can’t miss them. The City of Philadelphia has long struggled with regulation of outdoor advertising and currently there are several proposals and bills being considered in City Hall to freeze their construction, digitize them, and put them on school buildings. In this hour of Radio Times we’re talking “billboards” with Councilman BLONDELL REYNOLDS BROWN, PlanPhilly’s JARED BREY and anti-billboard activist MARY TRACY.
