Wind Advisory in effect for coastal areas tonight

A windy night is ahead, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a Wind Advisory for the coastal areas along the Jersey Shore.

In effect from 8 p.m. until 1 a.m., the advisory warns of west winds at 20 to 30 miles per hour, gusting up to 50 miles per hour.

“Gusty winds will continue throughout tonight, with the strongest winds occurring along and just behind a cold frontal passage,” the advisory states. “In addition, showers and thunderstorms may accompany the front.”

Forecasters say that motorists should exercise caution and residents should secure light patio furniture, garbage cans, and decorations.
