Wilmington police investigate first homicide of the year

Wilmington police are investigating the city’s first homicide of 2014.

According to police, a Maryland man was shot in downtown Wilmington just after 8 p.m. Wednesday night.

The victim, 28-year-old Allen Whitt was shot while sitting inside his vehicle on the 1400 block of W. 3rd street. He attempted to drive a few feet down the road before succumbing to his injuries.

Police do not have a suspect and are continuing to investigate. Anyone with information should contact the Wilmington Police Department. Anonymous tips can be submitted through the Wilmington Police Confidential Tip Line at (302) 576-3990.
