Wilmington police investigate city’s 8th homicide

Wilmington police are investigating the death of a 19-year-old man found shot in the head in the parking lot of a Wilmington community center.

Police say the victim is Jermaine Goins Jr. of Wilmington. According to investigators, the shooting happened Sunday around 6 p.m. on the 700 block of West 5th Street. A number of officers responded to the scene after multiple 911 calls reported the shooting. Responding officers performed CPR on Goins, but he was later pronounced dead by paramedics. There’s no word on a motive or if there’s a lead on a suspect. However, police urge anyone with information to call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 800-TIP-3333.

This is the city’s eighth homicide of the year. The city reported 18 homicides this time last year.
