What was the best gift given or received this year?

This time of year is traditonally for giving and for receiving — and for that reason, it’s often a time of extreme joy and sore disappointment. Did you get what you hoped for, be it material, spiritual or familial? Were you able to give all you wanted to give?

Sometimes if there’s something I really want, but I can’t justify getting it for myself, the next best thing is to buy it for someone else. That way there’s a little of giving and getting all wrapped up in one: I get the satisfaction of buying it — and, if I’m good, I might one day be able to borrow it.
