Weekend News Briefs: 4/30 – 5/2
Friday — The FBI is looking for an armed robber who struck two CVS stores last week. The first occurred at 15500 Bustleton Ave. in Somerton, and the second at 7720 Bustleton Ave. in Rhawnhurst. In both instances, the suspect produced a note and a gun, but he was only able to get drugs during the second robbery. He is described as a white male, 5’11- 6’1″, with a thin build. He is said to have a medium complexion, and a dark goatee, and was wearing a black hoodie with jeans at the time of the robberies.
Saturday — Officials at Northeast Philadelphia Airport are investigating how foam leaked from a hangar Saturday afternoon. The foam began leaking around 4:30 p.m., but the incident was not sparked by a fire or other aircraft emergency. The foam, which is environmentally safe, did result in some aircrafts being removed from the hangar.
Sunday — A shooting in Frankford early Sunday morning left one man dead and a woman injured. Reports say the man and woman were in a parked car on the 4900–block of Penn Street shortly after 2 a.m. when a man came up and started shooting them. The 29-year-old male was shot in the face, chest and stomach, and was pronounced dead on the scene. The woman, 23, was treated for a gunshot wound to the leg at Einstein Medical Center. Details surrounding the incident are still under investigation.
