Volunteers tackle “wasteland” site for Philly Spring Cleanup

Remember the “wasteland”? The neglected railroad bed along the 300-block of Tusculum Street in Kensington prompted a CityPaper cover story and a look into the plight of its neighbors. About 60 volunteers came together Saturday to begin a cleanup.

CityPaper has photos of the Philly Spring Cleanup event, which required a bulldozer to collect the garbage. While the site is looking cleaner, Tusculum Street residents worry the large hole in the fence leading to the tracks will keep the criminals and addicts coming back.
