VIDEO: Cape May cop pulls man from burning truck
A Cape May police officer is credited with saving the life of a man whose pickup truck burst into flames, the Cape May County Herald reports.
Patrolman Scott Krissinger was dispatched to a vehicle fire on Sunset Boulevard, arriving to flames consuming the front end of the truck, the report states.
Unsure if the truck was occupied, Krissinger was prepared to smash the driver’s side window with his baton, but quickly opened the door and dragged the driver, Gerald Ferrill, 61, of Mays Landing, out of the smoky cab and to safety.
Krissinger then returned to the truck to check for a passanger.
“I couldn’t see anything,” Krissinger tells the newspaper. “I was just feeling inside the truck for another person.”
Police Capt. Robbie Sheehan tells WMGM-TV that the department is very proud of Krissinger. He calls him “a hero in every sense of the word.”
Krissinger says any officer on the Cape May force would have done the same thing.
Police say Ferrill is hospitalized in critical but stable condition.
