Toll-free Tuesdays on Atlantic City Expressway
ListenAmid the turmoil of closing casinos, New Jersey’s downsized gambling mecca is betting on a special promotion for the month of October.
A city marketing group is offering to pay your Atlantic City Expressway tolls on Tuesdays this month.
Melanie Sole of the Atlantic City Alliance said her group decided to offer free tolls from noon to midnight on Tuesdays in October as a way of showing the resort town doesn’t shut down after the Miss America Pageant.
“The summer is over, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a great time to go to Atlantic City. The weather is beautiful down here right now, there’s still a lot of things going on and we wanted to showcase Atlantic City in the fall and during the week,” said Sole. “There are a lot of options going on even when they come on a Tuesday, Wednesday midweek.”
Sole, whose group is the one behind those “DO AC” campaigns, said restaurant and casino operators are offering deals and discounts to go with the free eastbound tolls at the Pleasantville and Egg Harbor plazas.
“The casinos and other restaurants and attractions in town have put together some Tuesday packages and packages that are good throughout the week during the month of October,” she said.
Of the $4 million marketing campaign, the Atlantic City Alliance is focusing $1 million specifically on the Philadelphia market.
Four casinos in Atlantic City have closed this year, and another might be shuttered next month.
