A couple of Canadian reactions to Gov Christie’s recent visit

Former Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau once famously compared Canada’s proximity to the United States as being like sleeping with an elephant, in that “one is affected by every twitch and grunt.”

Canadians, obviously, have a pretty big interest in who ends up president of the United States. In light of the fact that Gov. Chris Christie is one of the folks South of the Border (Weird to think of America in those terms, isn’t it?) likely to throw his hat into the ring, what do our friends in Canada think of him?

Well, here are a few reader comments following a Toronto Star story about Christie’s private meeting last week with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper:

*”Hopefully he didn’t have to shut down any bridges to get here.”

* “Chris Christie is on a Canadian tour that we all knew about. Try to keep up! He was in Alberta too…well publicized. Thanking Canada for being a good neighbour and supporting our Keystone pipeline. Just because you don’t know that something is happening doesn’t mean it isn’t.”

* “Christie’s clearly not too highly versed in Harper’s actions when he praises him for being either principled or conservative …. but then again one can’t expect anything different from a rah-rah flag waving ‘merican with low scrupples to match.” Yeah? Well at least we know how to spell “scruples,” buddy.
