Four Wilmington teens have been charged after stealing a car Wednesday afternoon.

The incident happened just before 4 p.m. Wednesday when Wilmington police officers noticed a property damage accident on Northpark Drive. When officers tried to approach the vehicle, the driver accelerated and lost control of the car. Two of the teens fled on foot and two jumped into the Brandywine River.

Police were able to catch 18-year-old Terrence Loat and three juveniles within minutes and they were taken to a Wilmington emergency room as a precaution.

The teens are charged with theft over $1,500, receiving stolen property over $1,500, conspiracy and resisting arrest. The driver of the vehicle was also charged with several traffic violations.
