Talking School District budget cut impacts and the death of a local punk rocker on NewsWorks Tonight

We’ve put in almost two full weeks of our new show, NewsWorks Tonight. We’ve got a nice rhythm going, but there’s always room for improvement so give a listen tonight on 91 FM and share your thoughts.

We’re leading tonight with a story on the School District of Philadelphia’s budget crisis. As the District waits to hear if City Council will provide a requested $75 million in additional funding, students face cuts to school programs that could affect their family dynamics. Dave Davies will have more on the budget and what city council plans to do about it.

If you don’t know his you, you might recognize his voice the South Philly’s punk rocker Mikey Wild. Arts & Culture reporter Peter Crimmins talked to some folks who remember a lot of things about Wild. With news of his death, they’ll reflect.

Have you been to the Race Street Pier yet? It’s celebrated, it comes with a beautiful view and it’s open to the public. PlanPhilly’s JoAnn Greco will talk all about it.

What else could you have been doing while you watched last night’s six-hour Phillies game? Nothing better, of course, but just out of curiosity… Dave Heller will let us know what else takes six hours and 11 minutes.

We’ve got that and more for you tonight, so give us a half hour and we’ll catch you up on what’s brewing.
