Sweeney to make Sandy Bill of Rights announcement

New Jersey’s Senate president is not giving up the fight for a Superstorm Sandy “Bill of Rights.”
Sen. Stephen Sweeney on Thursday will join community advocates to make an announcement in Manasquan.
Gov. Chris Christie conditionally vetoed the measure that was crafted by Democrats who were concerned over how the state has distributed aid.
The Republican said the bill proposed new administrative procedures and spending requirements accompanied by a “raft of partisan political findings.” The governor also said the rights were ready to “be pursued by lawyers.”
Sweeney says the measure would require a plain language explanation of aid eligibility and how to apply for Sandy recovery programs. It also would include a right to know why aid applications are rejected.
