Sussex County Council urges reconsideration of fuel tax

Members of Sussex County Council are urging the state’s Congressional Delegation to back off from supporting a proposed 25-cents per gallon increase in the federal tax on fuel.

The proposed increase in the federal fuel tax would fund improvements to roads and bridges.  Sussex County Council adopted a resolution proposed by Council President Vance Phillips to oppose the increase.  Phillips said “people are hurting.  They’ve lost jobs, they’re struggling to make ends meet.  Businesses are hurting too.  To ask the people to pick up one cent more of government spending is wrong, and for many Americans, it could break the bank.”
