(Update) At 10:06 a.m. Rutgers University said the area is safe. “Area surrounding the Douglass Parking Deck has been reopened. Package has been deemed safe. Thank you for your patience.”

Rutgers University officials say police are investigating a suspicious package found at the Douglass Parking Deck in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Rutgers is asking the public to avoid the area.

This is a developing story and we’ll update this as we learn more. 

The suspicious package in New Brunswick comes after 5 explosive devices were found near the Northeast Corridor train station in Elizabeth, New Jersey overnight. One of the device exploded as a bomb unit robot was handling it. No injuries were reported.
