St. Hubert’s Class of 1942 ring returned to owner

Arletta Pardoe Bateman thought she’d never see her St. Hubert High School class ring again.

A member of the school’s first graduating class, Bateman gave the ring to a boyfriend while living in Baltimore shortly after graduating. She returned to Philadelphia, but the ring didn’t.

Until earlier this week, as the Inquirer reported Wednesday morning.  That boyfriend died in 2001, long after Bateman had married and had 10 children. But the old boyfriend’s son found the ring last year and sent it back to St. Hubert, which turned the ring over to 87-year-old Bateman Tuesday — along with a new Bambi doll and a St. Hubert blanket.

Bateman’s great-granddaughter is currently a senior at St. Hubert.
