Special election scheduled January 13th for New Castle County Council President
The final step in replacing those who replaced former Delaware Senator, now Vice President Joe Biden, will happen early next year.
January 13th, 2011 is the date set for a special election to determine who will be President of New Castle County Council.
New Castle County Department of Elections Director Anthony Albence says he has received the Writ of Election from County Council President Pro Tem Penrose Hollins. Former Council President Paul Clark, a Democrat, became County Executive November 15th when Chris Coons was sworn in as Delaware’s newest U.S. Senator.
Albence says it would cost about $500,000 to hold the special election, which will include the usual voting hours of 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. “The Department is contacting polling places and plans to have all buildings used in the General Election open,” Albence says.
Democrats have nominated County Council member Tim Sheldon as their candidate in the special election, while Republicans at a recent meeting chose former State Representative Tom Kovach.
