A cold front will arrive in the region late tonight, delivering some precipitation to the parched Jersey Shore.

Forecasters expect the slow-moving front to stall tomorrow, with an area of low pressure developing along the boundary before pushing offshore by Friday.

According to the latest NOAA forecast, showers and possibly a thunderstorm are likely overnight through tomorrow evening.

The National Weather Service forecasts the heaviest precipitation to the northwest of the I-95 corridor.

The latest forecast indicates that the heaviest precipitation will fall in Monmouth County (1.25 to 1.5 inches), tapering down along the coast to Cape May County (0.5 to 0.75 inches).

Conditions improve by Friday, with more seasonable air moving into the region. Showers and thunderstorms then threaten by Sunday.

While most of the shore has not seen measurement rainfall in nearly three weeks, according to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s drought status site, the entire Shore remains in the “normal” category.
