Security crackdown under way in Philadelphia
ListenSecurity is starting to tighten up in Philadelphia for the papal visit.
Metal detectors are now screening anyone who wants to enter the area from City Hall to the Art Museum as a fence rings those streets.
Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter says if you haven’t been paying attention to travel restrictions, listen up.
“It’s not too late to figure out a plan, getting information from 311, going on the city’s website, Papal Playbook we’ll try to help you out,” he said.
Verna Swardelow came through the metal detectors. She says things need to be secure but it’s a bit surreal seeing downtown streets empty.
“This is the twilight zone. This is unlike anything we’ve ever seen before or ever will see,” she said.
Swardelow says she expects to sell a lot of grilled cheese sandwiches from her food truck this weekend.
