Saying goodbye

Save the date. On Jan. 2, outgoing Gov. Ed Rendell is holding a bash to say thank you to all those who volunteered for, donated, or otherwise supported his campaigns. The party will feature a free concert by his favorite band — the Beach Boys — at the Electric Factory. The Inquirer details the plans for the bash, mentioning that this will be the only big party Rendell will hold before heading out of Harrisburg on Jan. 18.

The Inquirer quotes Michelle Singer, Rendell’s campaign finance director: “This is a heartfelt thank-you from Ed Rendell to his supporters. He wanted this to be his big thank-you to everyone who has stood by him over the years.” The soon-to-be-ex governor’s campaign committee is picking up the tab.

“Several thousands” are on the guest list, including current and former Philadelphia mayors Michael Nutter and John Street, though it’s doubtful they’ll be arm-in-arm signing “God Only Knows” together.
