Salem Fire Department receives federal grant
The Salem Fire Department in South Jersey has received $57,000 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant.
The department is one of eight in the state to receive a portion of $454,000 in federal funding, to be used for training, equipment, personal protective equipment, health programs and other support for first-responder stations and facilities.
Salem Fire Chief Fred Ayars told Today’s Sunbeam the department will replace a 36-year-old air compressor unit on one of the company’s trucks, which firefighters use at every fire for their air packs.
