Route 1 tolls in Delaware will increase Aug. 1
Tolls along Route 1 in Delaware will increase on the weekends beginning next month.
According to the Delaware Department of Transportation, the increase will be $1 above the current weekend toll rates for all vehicle classes, except oversize loads. Ramp tolls in Smyrna and Dover will not change.
The new weekend rates are as follows:
-Class 2 Passenger Vehicle $3
-Class 3 Vehicle $5
-Class 4 Vehicle $6
-Class 5 Vehicle $7
-Class 6 Vehicle $8
-Wide Load Permit Vehicle $11
The new toll rates will go into effect at 7 p.m. on Friday Aug. 1.
DelDOT plans to use the extra revenue to fund paving and other transportation projects across the state. The agency will also borrow $20 million to help fund infrastructure projects.
The increase comes after the state leaders decided not to pursue a plan that would have raised the state’s gas tax by 10 cents a gallon.
