Right NEast/Wrong NEast: Tacony moves to Mayfair and joins North Philadelphia

Let’s get right to the point: Finding the Mayfair, Tacony and Holmesburg borders is no easy feat, even for the people who live there.

The three neighborhoods’ civic associations and town watch groups work pretty closely together, and the Mayfair Business Association’s boundaries stretch beyond the neighborhood.

So we could maybe look past the fact that a fire in Tacony was reported as Mayfair by CBS3. But the North Philadelphia headline is unacceptable.

The above image is a screen capture we took from our Google Reader subscription page. Had we not clicked further to read the full story, all we would have seen would be the North Philadelphia headline and the Mayfair lead sentence. Confusing much?

It’s probably a typo on the station’s part (let’s hope the reporters know the difference between North and Northeast), but would it have killed them to do a little more editing?

Outside media don’t care about the Northeast. We have all seen them misuse, misspell and mistake our neighborhoods and our streets, so we at NEast Philly wanted to do something about it. When they get it wrong, we set it right in a segment we like to call Right NEast/Wrong NEast.
