Reiker’s serving meats and other popular items in Fox Chase since 1972

Rieker’s Prime Meats has been a staple of Fox Chase since moving to 7979 Oxford Ave. from Lawncrest in 1972.

Rieker’s specializes in handmade luncheon meats and sausages on site. In addition, Rieker’s offers premade meals like chicken parmesean, stuffed peppers, black forest pork and chicken, Bavarian stuffed chicken, rouladen and other specialties that are popular with seniors, families and singles throughout the community.

The store is also well stocked with salads, premade soups, pierogi and spaetzle, as well as imported candies, cookies, condiments and other items from Germany. The store offers holiday meal packages that must be ordered well in advance of the holidays.

Rieker’s has a solid customer base in Northeast Philadelphia, but draws customers from the Delaware Valley, the tri-state area and as far away as Maryland, Virginia, Florida and New York. With customers traveling great distances to Rieker’s, the store has recently expanded to the Internet, offering customers the opportunity to order their specialties on line.

“We have improved our Internet site to provide our customers with the ability to order on line and save the cost of traveling long distances,” Marcus Rieker, a third-generation store operator, explained. “It is going well; we are still working out the kinks and will expand the offerings on the site.”

Rieker said the recession has affected his business due to increasing material costs but those costs have not been passed on to the customers. Rieker points to the all-natural content of his meats and local suppliers as a key to the continued success of the market.

“Our meat supply is provided by local companies and we do not put additives in our products,” he explained. “All of our meat is fresh and natural.”
