Public library offering free music downloads from Sony catalog

Looking for a little music while you’re browsing through books. The library can help with that. The Free Library of Philadelphia has an agreement with a private company Library Idea, which has worked out a deal with Sony: download the label’s entire music category for free from the library.

WHYY’s Peter Crimmins spoke with a material management chief at the library, where the music catalog has gone from outdated and obsolete to a list of hundreds of thousands of popular songs.

What’s the catch you ask? Not such a bad one, considering you’re getting music for free: you get three downloads a week, and of course, you only have access to Sony-produced albums.
