PSE&G mulls another nuclear reactor for South Jersey

It’s been decades since new reactor built in U.S.

The utility PSE&G is considering constructing another Nuclear plant in South Jersey.

The utility is planning to apply for permits by the end of May, but even if everything were ready it would take a decade or more for the plant to be constructed. Joe Delmar is a spokesman for the utility. He says they are just exploring their options at this point.

“There are several different design technologies out there for new reactors but many of them have to be certified by the NRC and our hope is by the time we would recieve early site approval that some of those design certifications would be complete and allow us to make us a better and more informed decision on new reactor technology.”

There hasn’t been a new plant built in the United States in decades, although one with federal loan guarantees is in the planning process in Georgia.
