Authorities say a woman who confronted a police officer while carrying a 3-foot-long machete is now facing weapons charges in New Jersey.

Little Egg Harbor police say officers encountered 53-year-old township resident Juanita Cerbone around 6:15 p.m. Sunday when they responded to a report of suspicious people standing on a street corner.

An officer saw Cerbone walking with the machete in her hand and pulled out his service weapon while ordering her to drop the machete. But she ignored his directive and instead started walking toward him.

Cerbone finally dropped the machete when two other officers arrived at the scene.

Bail was set at $10,000 for Cerbone. A telephone number for her could not be located Monday, and it wasn’t known if she has retained an attorney.
